Fast Growth + Unique Black Color

Why Black Mondo Grass?

You don't see black very often in landscaping. That's what makes this mondo grass so unique- at just 12 inches tall, it still attracts attention! Glossy, dark leaves are topped with bell-shaped pale flowers that range in color from pink to white in mid-summer. The flowers will turn into shiny berries that stay with the slim evergreen foliage all winter long.

Black Mondo Grass thrives in full sun to part shade in just about any garden setting - like among the flowers in a traditional flower bed, or mingling with the shrubs in the landscape. Keep it well watered its first year, then sit back and enjoy the four-season show.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your Black Mondo in an area with full sun (about 6 hours of sunlight daily) and well-drained soil. Once you've chosen your location, dig a hole that's large enough to accommodate your plant's root ball, place your plant, backfill the soil and water to settle the roots.

You can also plant your grass in a pot. If you choose to do so, select a container that's about twice as large as your plant's shipped container (and ensure it has drainage holes), use organic soil mix, place your plant, and fill the pot with soil, leaving about 2 inches free at the top. Finally, water your newly-potted plant to settle the soil.

2. Watering: When the top of the soil feels dry down to about 2 or 3 inches, water your Black Mondo.

Other than regular watering if your area does not receive consistent rainfall, Black Mondo Grass requires very little additional maintenance.
